For over 25 years, the European Journalism Centre has been inspiring and training journalists through events and workshops of all sizes.

Focusing on topics like trust, revenue, and leadership, we’re committed to helping journalists from all backgrounds to further themselves, their newsrooms, and their industry. Our programmes are engaging, challenging and collaborative. They explore the latest techniques and topics with a lasting impact on participants.

What will you be working on? Well, our portfolio for Events & Training in 2018 includes programmes like our News Impact Summits and Academies, powered by the Google News Initiative. Our 2019 programme portfolio is not yet defined but will feature comparable projects and partners, with increased scope and impact.

We’re looking for a person to join our new Events & Training team in the following role, starting on or before March 2019.

Team Lead, Events & Training

As a Team Lead at the EJC, you’ll be developing and delivering programmes that benefit journalists across Europe through events ranging from 500-person conferences to 10-person workshops.

Your primary task is to guide the team’s vision and ensure that they can deliver programmes to an exceptional standard. You’ll achieve this by:

  • Building ambitious programme strategies that have a real impact on journalists.
  • Managing budgets, establishing processes and workflows.
  • Ensuring that all programmes are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Developing and analysing evaluation programmes to measure success.
  • Liaising with key partners and stakeholders.
  • Inspiring and developing your team

Team Leads are focused on serving our journalism communities. They must develop the right strategies and tactics to deliver desired outcomes. They determine what work needs to get done, how much to invest in which efforts, and how to prioritise opportunities.

Requirements

Successful applicants will be very good communicators who can work well under pressure and have the ability to blend strategy and execution.

You will have at least three years of project or event management experience in journalism or a similar field (human rights, politics, non-profit, arts & culture). You will have a keen interest in journalism.

Our preferred location for you to be based in Maastricht, but we will accept applications from people based in Brussels. However, this team is based in Maastricht, so you’ll need to demonstrate an ability to work remotely. Relocation support is available.

Applicants must possess a valid EU nationality or visa. We are unable to accept applicants from outside of the EU.

Commitment: 1.0 FTE (full time)
Location: Maastricht or Brussels
Language: Excellent written and spoken English
Salary: Commensurate with experience and location.
Start date: March 2019.
Contract: One-year temporary contract, with an option to renew for the second year.
