The European Journalism Centre and Google News Initiative invite you to join our next conference in Prague

After two years of online conferences, we are returning to in-person events by focusing on one of the core principles of journalism, storytelling. No matter how much the world changes and how journalism shifts, at the heart of all good editorial is a great human story that resonates with the audience.

At the News Impact Summit: The Future of Editorial in Prague on 6 October we will explore how journalists and media organisations can reorganise and innovate their storytelling and products to reconnect with their communities and win their trust. Together with local and international industry experts, we will discuss questions like: What new digital tools are there available? What formats are publishers using to tell new complex stories? How can journalists use storytelling to fight mis- and disinformation? And what can journalists learn from successful brands to improve their storytelling?

This will be the 35th edition of News Impact Summits organised by the European Journalism Centre (EJC) and powered by Google News Initiative.

You can register (free of charge) here to celebrate editorial innovation in journalism with us.

Help us shape the programme

The programme will include inspirational talks, best practices and dynamic conversations, along with networking opportunities and hands-on sessions. The process of creating an exciting programme for the Summit involves a user-centred approach and several iterations and is built with the input of our network of speakers and local partners. If you have great ideas for topics or a wish list of speakers you’d like to see at the Summit, please email me at peneda@ejc.net. Take a look at our previous speakers to get an idea of who to expect; the list includes a diverse range of innovators from legacy newsrooms, like the BBC, Radio Free Europe, Zeit Online, as much as smaller newsrooms and startups like DoR (Decât o Revistă), Denník N, Outriders, etc.

Stay tuned, we will announce the programme at the end of May.

Travel stipends

This year for the first time in the history of the News Impact Summits, we are able to give five stipends to support journalists who struggle with travel costs and whose voices can’t otherwise be represented at the Summit. Journalists who will receive the allowances will be selected in coordination with the local partners of the Summit, in line with EJC’s eligibility requirements.

A discussion about the future of journalism should also include the next generation getting ready to enter the profession. That is why we will invite three Google News Initiative Student Fellows, the cohort of a programme that connects young talent with innovative newsrooms across Europe. The selected Fellows will join our team during the event and contribute with online coverage at the Summit.

Recorded sessions

The main sessions will be recorded and shared on our YouTube channel after the event. The event will not be live-streamed but we will facilitate interaction during the day and you can join us on Twitter on the day of the event by following #NISPRG.
