This AI training for data journalists covers essential concepts, practical applications, and decision-making strategies to effectively integrate AI into your journalism practice. Gain hands-on experience with AI and learn how to address risks such as privacy issues, bias, and hallucinations.

The training will be highly interactive: come prepared with questions and examples from your own experience!

Who is this training for?

This training is designed for data journalists and investigative reporters seeking to leverage AI in their analysis and reporting. Some prior experience with AI tools is advisable but not required.

What you will learn

  • Understand key concepts of AI: draw the line between AI and Generative AI, and familiarise with AI foundations such as training, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
  • Explore real-world examples and use cases: Learn how AI is being applied in data journalism through detailed examples and case studies.
  • Get your hands dirty: Gain first-hand experience with large language models (LLMs), AI agents, and APIs.
  • Identify and mitigate AI risks: Recognise the potential risks associated with AI, including privacy concerns, bias, and hallucinations, and develop strategies to mitigate them.
