It is a pleasure to welcome Francesco Cancellato to the EJC board.

With a fine career in journalism and a strong track record of accomplishments, Francesco brings expertise and strategic thinking that will help elevate our organisation.

D FANPAGEIT FCANCELLATO 2

Francesco Cancellato is widely recognised as a notable figure in the area of online journalism. Operating as the editor-in-chief of Fanpage.it, one of the leading online newspapers, he has consistently demonstrated his exceptional leadership skills and editorial competence. As the former editor-in-chief of Linkiesta.it, Francesco played a pivotal role in tailoring the publication's direction and growing its reach, solidifying its position as a trusted source of news and information for millions of readers.

‘’I look very much forward to gaining the knowledge and insight that Francesco Cancellato will bring to the table as a new board member in our work to strengthen, support and develop journalism in Europe. Fanpage. It is one of the most interesting contributions to the European media landscape from the recent decade and to have an even more southern European perspective shared with the EJC is important. As the EJC director, I’m confident that the team and I will benefit from this’’’

-- Lars Boering, Director European Journalism Centre

For the EJC installing Francesco Cancellato on the board is excellent news because he is a journalist who is leading the revolution of digital newspapers in Italy and in Europe and who can provide us with a vision in one of the most relevant and innovative journalistic territories.

-Vicent Partal, Chairman, Founder and Director of VilaWeb.cat

Apart from his editorial achievements, Francesco is also an accomplished author. He has penned several notable books, including "Fattore G. Perché i tedeschi hanno ragione" (UBE, 2016), "Né sfruttati né bamboccioni. Risolvere la questione generazionale per salvare l’Italia" (Egea, 2018), and "Il Muro. 15 storie dalla fine della guerra fredda" (Egea, 2019). These literary works further exemplify his profound sense of complex socio-political dynamics and his capability to communicate them with transparency and nuance.

"Joining the board of the European Journalism Center foundation is an honour and a great responsibility. It is also an important recognition of the role that online journals such as Fanpage.it have assumed in the European media landscape. Above all, it is the recognition of the central role they have and will play in the years to come, in defining the paths of innovation and development of the media world. The goal is to help ensure that this innovative momentum spreads as much as possible in a continent where important organisations in the digital information landscape are rising, growing and consolidating. Furthermore, it is fundamental to ensure continuity in informing audiences and societies which is necessary in uncertain times such as the ones we are experiencing".
