Are you ready for a new adventure at the European Journalism Centre?

In 2021, the EJC is looking for a temporary replacement for the Portfolio Lead overseeing the Events & Training team.

Period: February — August 2021 (7 months)

Commitment: 32–40 hours per week

Compensation: according to our country based salary system (more info during the interview)

Location: candidates need to based in either the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, or the United Kingdom

As a Portfolio Lead, you will be working under the supervision of one of two Programme Directors, and with a team of dedicated Project Managers. You will drive the implementation of new and existing events and training formats that are linked to the latest trends and topics in the fields of journalism, the news industry, and tech & innovation.

What will you be working on?

The purpose of this temporary role is to lead the team implementing EJC’s 2021 Events & Training projects, with a focus on online journalism events and a placement programme.

You will work on a combination of tasks that includes

  • Providing guidance to the team based on project goals and objectives;
  • Designing formats, concepts, and launch plans for online journalism events, workshops and training programmes;
  • Overseeing the project’s working budgets;
  • Monitoring team performance and reporting on metrics and progress;
  • Monitoring & measuring the impact of the events and training projects;
  • Communicating on, and finding alternatives for, resource and timeline issues;
  • Communicating progress and wins to project partners and funders, the Leadership team, and the wider EJC team.

What are we looking for?

We would love to have a chat with you if you can answer the following qualifications with a yes….

  • A minimum of three years of project management experience in journalism or a similar field
  • A minimum of two years of experience in leading teams
  • The ability to blend strategy and execution
  • Good knowledge of the media landscape and trends in Europe
  • A proven background, or strong, demonstrable interest, in journalism and in working with journalists and other media professionals
