    Global media thinkers join EJC @ PICNIC 2010

    Nope, the state of professional journalism today ain't no picnic, no tiptoe through the tulips. Most news media companies are either merging, consolidating or dropping like flies as they get beaten up by the Attention Economy. Before it was called ‘downsizing' in Fourth Estate-land, now its called ‘creating efficiencies'. Either way it's a nervy time and any gloom-and-doom minded organiser could as easily have themed the European Journalism Centre's recent Future of Journalism day as ‘PICNIC: The Last Supper?'.

    Fear and dialogue in Copenhagen

    Coming to Copenhagen for a recent US-European environmental journalists' conference (at the invitation of the Washington D.C.-based Center for Strategic and International Studies) having covered primarily fossil fuels, I initially felt like the wine critic being invited to cover an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.
