The EJC and Internews Ukraine implemented a two-year programme designed to improve the new-media skills of regional Ukrainian journalists, citizen journalists, and bloggers. The programme was launched as internet penetration in the country was reaching critical mass, making this a crucial time for the promotion of online tools as independent sources of information.
The project lined up a series of intensive, practical new-media workshops, and led to the launch of MediaNext, a web portal proposing toolkits and new-media resources, specifically adapted to the country’s complex media landscape. Over 250 journalists were trained, with 20 going on to become confirmed new-media experts and trainers for Internews Ukraine.
The programme was also instrumental in creating the New Media Summer School in Kiev and the formation of a community of new-media practitioners.
The New Media Initiative for Ukraine was part of the MATRA programme.
